Bahn Xeo in Da Nang

Lan first took us to Ba Duong for banh xeo (sizzling pancakes) a week ago and what a treat it was! There are plenty of restaurants that serve banh xeo, but apparently this one is the best (or most well known). We never would have found this on our own, ok, we would have but we would have been starving by the time we found it. This gem is hidden at the end of an alley. It is a narrow street here but to us, it feels like an alley.

On the corner of Nguyen Van Linh and Hoang Dieu is Hagl Plaza Hotel. Head down Hoang Dieu and on the right hand side, you will see a "street" that looks like this:

This is the "street" you are looking for. There is a wedding shop called Ut Bony next to it.
The place packs it in, but we arrived just after 11am so it was easy to get a table (We have since returned several times and you can have your fill as early as 10am as well! Weekends fill up earlier). Lan took care of all the ordering and the food arrived promptly. If you go without a Vietnamese speaker, don't worry, just sit down and they will start to bring food. They are pretty good judge of how much to bring out to you, and if you want more, just ask (or point to your empty plate). You pay only for what you eat.

There are sinks to wash your hands on the right hand side after entering the restaurant.

Putting together the meat skewers
A quiet morning before the rush
She then proceeded to assist us in the process of how to eat this Da Nang favourite.

No need to order, they bring this to you as soon as you sit down.

Step 1. Take the rice paper in one hand

Step 2. Fill it with a meat skewer, cucumber, banh xeo, green papaya, greens, garlic, chili peppers or whatever else is on the table

Step 3. Roll it up

Step 4. Dip it in the peanut sauce

Step 5. Devour it!

Simple and so very good. Once you've had your fill, ask for the bill and someone will come tally up your bill which you can then pay. I cannot tell you how many times we went to eat this, we lost count. We also brought our friends who came to visit us here as well and it was a big hit with them too! I could use some right now as a matter of fact!

NOTE: for the meat skewers, you only pay for what you eat. If you can, order the thit nuong (grilled meat), it is really good and you are lucky if they just bring it to you.
